Second City Salvage is offering today this nickel plated cast brass sconce that dates to c1920 or earlier that was salvaged from a Pullman passenger car. It came to me from a serious collector of old railroad artifacts. Original Sheffield glass shade is heavy, but does have a few flaws, a small chip to the fitter edge, a chip on the interior bottom of the shade and a 2″ hairline that runs down the shade from the fitter edge (last photo). These flaws do not, in any way affect the integrity of the shade, but I have to mention. It’s an extremely heavy piece (7.25 lbs.) and the nickel plating is in great shape with only a few cloudy spots and instances of loss of finish as shown. Overall, it measures 6 3/4″w x 10 ½”h and will project 8 1/2″ from the wall once installed. The wall plate is 4″w x 6″h and the shade itself measures 6 3/4″dia. x 5″h and has a 3 ¼” fitter. This is a rare shade in that it’s very difficult to find this particular shade with a 3 ¼” fitter. It accepts a standard base bulb and will come to you with updated wiring and a modern bracket needed for install. Own a piece of Pullman history! Would be a great light for kitchen or bathroom over a medicine cabinet which is where it was installed for many years.
