Description
Second City Salvage is offering today this large landscape and seascape transom window attributed to the Witte Brothers Glass Company incorporated in 1907. Witte Bros. made many stained glass windows for homes in and around the Twin Cities (Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN) throughout the early 20th century. Although I have no exact provenance on this piece, I am told it was salvaged several years ago from a home in south Minneapolis. This window depicts a country lane with a cottage and seascape with a sailboat which is very common in Witte Bros. windows. It is comprised mainly of original opalescent pieces (probably Kokomo Glass) and is in exceptional condition. There were two tight hairline cracks which were covered by lead overlays (last photo in the listing shows where the overlays were done). Frame is not painted, but is sturdy and is in original condition. Overall, it measures 57 ½”w x 22 ½”h and measurement for the glass only is 54 ½”w x 18 ½”h. This monumental piece will make a bold statement whether you choose to hang or install it in your space!
